1 Organizing Authority
The Organizing Authority is the United States Soling Association (USSA), in conjunction with the Valcour
Sailing Club, Inc.

2 Rules
The event will be governed by the 2009-2012 Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), and the Rules of the
International Soling Association (ISA). This Notice of Race will rule except as amended or altered by the
Sailing Instructions, or properly posted amendments on the Official Notice Board. All racing will be fleet
racing.

3 Advertising
The Championship will be a category C event in accordance with RRS 79 and Appendix G.
4 Eligibility and Entry
4.1 The regatta is open to all yachts declared eligible by the USSA, CISA or their national Soling
association. All skippers and crews must be members of the USSA, CISA, or the ISA. Proof of
membership shall be demonstrated prior to the start of Race # 1 of these championships, by the display of
the current Soling class sticker in accordance with class rules.

5 Schedule of Events
5.1 On-site registration will be at Plattsburgh Boat Basin Marina, Plattsburgh, New York, on Thursday,
August 13th, 2009 from 12:00 noon until 9:00 p.m. There will be representatives of the Lake Champlain
Soling Fleet there to help with registration, parking, and rigging.
5.2 Competitor’s meeting will be held at 0900 on Thursday, September 16th, 2009.
5.3 Fleet Racing:
Race 1 Friday, Aug 14th Warning Signal at 10:55
Race 2 Friday, Aug 14th following the conclusion of Race 1
Race 3 Friday, Aug 14th following the conclusion of Race 2
Race 4 Saturday, Aug 15th Warning Signal at 10:55
Race 5 Saturday, Aug 15th following the conclusion of Race 4
Race 6 Saturday, Aug 15th following the conclusion of Race 5
Race 7 Sunday, Aug 16th Warning Signal at 9:55
Make-up racing following Race 7 if possible
5.4 Every attempt will be made to end racing after Race 7 as early as possible to allow competitors to plan
return travel.
5.5 Social Activities – A pizza party for all competitors will be provided on Friday, Aug 14th, compliments
of CAN225. A casual barbeque will be on Saturday afternoon after racing. Prize-giving ceremony
promptly after the last race on Sunday.

6 Registration/Entry Fee
The entry fee is $175 usd. If postmarked prior to July 15th, 2009. $225 usd after. There is an additional fee
of $75 usd for the use of the hoist, payable at the boatyard. Entrants are encouraged to register by mail, by
completing the official entry form attached to this notice, and enclosing a check, payable to the Valcour
Sailing Club, P. O. Box 1362, Plattsburgh, NY 12901. Boats may also register Thursday, Aug 13th, 2009
and Friday morning Aug 14th, 2009 at the regatta site.

7 Measurement and Safety
Regatta Officials reserve the right to measure and/or stamp all sails and ask each yacht to submit a valid
measurement certificate. Random inspections for class safety rules will be conducted.

8 Liability
The organizing authorities and/or any part, person involved in the regatta, will accept no liability and
responsibility for any personal or material damage sustained prior to, during, or after the regatta.

9 Sailing Instructions
The Sailing Instructions shall be available at registration.

10 Regatta Site
The regatta site is at Plattsburgh Boat Basin Marina, 1 Dock Street, Plattsburgh, NY 12901. From
Interstate 87, take exit 37 and turn right (east) on Route 3. This becomes Cornelia Street. Stay straight and
continue on Cornelia St., still going east. At downtown Plattsburgh, turn right at City Hall onto Route 9.
Go one block, and turn left onto Bridge Street, following the waterfront signs to the marina. This is also
the location of the Naked Turtle Bar and Restaurant.

11 Racing Areas
The racing area shall be in Cumberland Bay, at Plattsburgh, N.Y., on Lake Champlain.
This is also labeled as Plattsburgh Bay on some road signs.

12 Courses
Are windward/leeward with 2 laps each, with windward offset mark.

13 Scoring
The low point scoring system, RRS Appendix A2 scoring system will apply. There are seven races
scheduled for the North American Championships. Four races completed shall constitute a regatta. In RRS
A2.1, if five races are completed, each boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her
worst for a score prohibited from exclusion by Rules A1-3.

14 Penalties
The 720- degree turns penalty, and RRS 44.1 and 44.2 of the rules will apply.

15 Haul –out restrictions
No hauling is allowed during the regatta unless specifically authorized by the PRO in special cases. New
docks will be available free of charge, donated by the city of Plattsburgh. They are located in front of the
Clare and Carl’s RedHots Michigans stand/restaurant immediately adjacent to the hoist, and must be used
by all competitors. Do not use any marina docks except when launching and hauling. Please bring fenders
and docking lines.

16 Prizes
Prizes will be awarded.
