| …this are the sequels of classic action movies…and also this final furioso seems to be thrilling.
Gustavo only 3 points behind but we with more first places.
Cicero has a small chance but therefore a lot of things has to happen.
First we had to wait in the harbour; it became more hot and hotter, but no real breeze came through. The race committee was, like every day, out on the course area.
Suddenly some movements…AP down. Prepare and go out, but some minutes later AP went up again.
Meanwhile shortly before 3 pm and last starting possibility at 5 pm. One hour to the starting area…to be serious…I got nervous.
Shortly after 3 pm AP came down again we went on sailing. About two bft., but changing.
At the start we had nearly 3 bft. what was not really bad for us…smile…the committee boat was favoured and so we guarded Gustavo from the prearation on. The jury was always close to us coz they also knew what`s going on.
30 sec to the start Gustavo gybed and lost some height to the favoured right side. As an extra he went between two other boats while we were tacking to the committee boat to secure the favoured side. Shot…and we had a nearly perfect start. Gustavo was packed and had to tack quite soon. Sure we went with him but always had an eye on Cicero.
The first beat became really good for us. We controlled Gustavo and inspite of our match race we rounded first, Fernando second and Gustavo third.
The motto was absolut clear: the daily victory is not important…only to keep Gustavo safe behind; what we could manage perfect.
On the third beat the wind increased a bit and so Gustavo and us pulled away from the fleet while Cicero went to the third place.
The whole race we were separated between 2-8 boat lenghts, what made it really exciting. At the end we had a comfortable lead and won the race and the world title for the second time after 2005.
Gustavo became second in reace and overall and Cicero third in the race and overall.
What a finish…FANTASTIC…!!! We were so so happy after last years pity with the broken main halyard. A really great regatta was finished.
The price giving ceremony followed perfect to the other grand events here with fortunately only a few and very short speeches.
At the end we were thrown in the not deep but very warm water in the harbour.
The evening was long and ended close to sunrise after lots of caipirinhas.
A resume will follow later…I`m still tired…
A very happy…happy Roman
