THE SOLING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2009
will take place at Etobicoke Yacht Club, Toronto Ontario CANADA
From 13th to 20th , September , 2009.
Organising authority
The organising authority is the International Soling Class (ISA) in conjunction with Etobicoke Yacht Club.
1. Rules
1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing.
1.2 The prescriptions of the Canadian Yachting Association (National Authority) will not apply.
1.3 The ISA Class and Championship Rules will apply.
1.4 The following racing rules will be changed: 28.1, 32, 35, 42.3(c), 60.1(a), 61.3, 62.2, A4.1, A4.2 and Race Signals AP and S. The changes will appear in full in the Sailing Instructions. The Sailing Instructions may also change other racing rules.
1.5 Amendments to any of the rules applying to the regatta must be approved and signed by the ISA Liaison Officer appointed for the event.
2. Advertising category
The regatta is designated Category C under ISAF Regulation 20.
3. Eligibility and entry
3.1 The regatta is open to all yachts of the International Soling Class as prescribed in Championship Rule 4 – Eligibility.
3.2 ISA Membership is obligatory for all crew members. Membership fees will be collected from any crew member failing to present proof of previously paid membership fee.
3.3 It is also required that all yachts entering display the ISA sticker for the current year. An additional amount will be collected from the helmsman or representative of any yacht not displaying the ISA sticker of the current year at the appropriate position.
3.4 Eligible boats may enter by completing the entry forms on the event website (
www.solingworlds.com ) no later than 26 August 2009 and completing registration and payment of all fees.
4. Classification
The ISAF Sailor Classification Code will apply.
5. Fees
The entry fee will be CAD$500.00 plus £35.00 Championship fee and may be paid by cash, internationally recognized debit card, or credit card (VISA, Mastercard). The entry fee includes boat launching and removal by crane, trailer storage, vehicle parking, mooring, and two or more event meals.
6. Registration
The Race Office at Etobicoke Yacht Club will be open for registration on 14 and 15 September 2009, between 10:00 and 16:00 each day.
7. Schedule
7.1 Measurement and inspection will take place at Etobicoke Yacht Club on September 13, 14, and 15, 2009 starting at 09:00 each day.
7.2 Racing is scheduled as follows:

7.3 The first warning signal each day will be at 11:00 on 16 Sept through 19 Sept, and will be at 10:00 on 20 Sept.
7.4 On the last day of the regatta no warning signal will be made after 13:00.
8. Measurement
Yachts will be measured in accordance with ISA Championship Rule 7.0 Measuring and Class Rules 16 and 17. For a yacht to be eligible to race, her valid (the original or a copy of the original) Measurement Form shall be presented at the Race Office, and the helmsman must have satisfied all measurement and registration requirements as specified in this Notice of Race including the submission (at the completion of measurement) of properly completed measurement work sheets. If the Measurement Form cannot be produced before the first race, RRS 78.2 will be applied.
9. Sailing instructions
Sailing Instructions will be available at registration.
10. Course area
A chart showing the course area is attached.
11. The courses
Standard ISA Championship courses will be used.
12. Penalty system
12.1 The Two-Turns Penalty, rule 44.2, will apply.
12.2 An International Jury will be appointed in accordance with RRS Appendix N. Their decisions will be final and not subject to appeal in accordance with RRS 70. 5.
13. Scoring
13.1 The Low Point Scoring System of RRS A4 will apply.
13.2 9 races are scheduled of which 5 must be completed to constitute a valid championship.
13.3 a) When fewer than 6 races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores.
b) When 6 or more races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.
14. Prizes
The following trophies will be awarded:
The World Championship Trophy
Paul Elvstrom Trophy - awarded to the best-placed helmsman aged 28 years or under on the first scheduled day of racing.
Tony Clare Trophy –awarded to the highest placed boat with a woman on board.
Geert Bakker Trophy - awarded to a sailor from the host nation (nominated by the host nation - see end of Championship Rules for Terms of Reference).
KC1 Classic Trophy –awarded to the highest placed boat built before January 1st of 1980.
Jose Lucio Glomb Trophy –awarded to the highest placed South American boat.
In addition, prizes will be awarded to the crew members of the boats finishing in first, second, and third in the final standings.
15. Disclaimer of liability
Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.
16. Insurance
Each participating boat shall have adequate insurance cover specifically including third party liability cover while racing of at least CAD$300,000.00 or the equivalent in the currency of the country of registration of the boat, for the duration of the regatta.
